Description

This NASA Research Announcement (NRA) provides an opportunity for members of the science community to participate in the NASA Science Team for the Ocean Surface Topography Science Team (OST/ST) for the continued study of satellite radar altimetry data for the ocean. This ST will be responsible for the continued analyses of satellite altimetry data including the planned launch of the Ocean Surface Topography Mission a follow on satellite altimeter to Jason planned for launch in early 2007. The OST/ST will include experts familiar with the application of satellite altimetry data to applications in oceanography that connect changes in the Earth’s climates to variations in ocean circulation, estimate sea level rise and assist in improving seasonal to interannual prediction. Other applications such as that relative to inland waters are also solicited. This NRA is open to all scientific investigators who submit proposals that respond to the objectives of the program, and which meet the other requirements stated in this announcement. Awards will be for the period of 48 months, with a potential extension for up to an additional 12 months, depending on the timing of the launch of the OSTM. Approximately $5.5M per year is available, with individual awards depending on the range of activities proposed and the total number of team members selected. Participation in the program is open to all categories of institutions, including educational, industrial, non-profit organizations, NASA centers and other US agencies. The complete NRA will be available electronically on July 30, 2003, via the Internet at the Research Opportunities Web Page at http://research.nasa.gov under “Office of Earth Science (Code Y)”. A paper copy will be available to those who do not have access to Internet by calling (202) 358-3552 and leaving a voice mail message. Notice of Intent is due August 29, 2003. This announcement will be open through October 30, 2003, and proposals may be submitted at any time throughout this period.
