The MODIS on the Terra satellite captured this image of a storm moving up the coast of the eastern United States on September 25, 2008.

The storm was predicted to bring rain, wind, and strong surf to the region.

This particular type storm is called a Nor’easter, both because of its location, and because the rotation of its winds. The winds from Nor’easters rotate onto land from the north east. Storms like this form in the Gulf of Mexico and generally gain strength once they hit the Atlantic Ocean.
