Images

A relatively clear day over over the northwestern portion of the US gave the MODIS on the Terra satellite this view on September 28, 2008.

In the top left corner of the image is Washinton State; in the lower left is Oregon.

Idaho is in the center of the image with Montana at top right and Wyoming at lower right. Idaho is very mountainous, with the Bitterroot Range running along the Idaho/Montana border. There are many other smaller ranges further in the interior of the state, including the Salmon River Mountains, the Clearwater Mountains, the Lemhi Range, and the Lost River Range. The Snake River runs through the southern part of Idaho. Along the Idaho/Oregon border, this river flows through Hells Canyon, which is North America’s deepest gorge. The corner where Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana meet is home to numerous National Parks including Yellowstone and Grand Tetons.
