NASA MODIS Image of the Day: October 14, 2008 – Fall in New England

Autumn is descending on New England in the United States.

In this image, captured by the MODIS on the Terra satellite on October 7, 2008, the foliage in the region is turning brown and orange, particular in the more northern states, like New York, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.

The fall colors are just starting to work their way further south into New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The changing of the seasons is even more noticeable when you move your mouse over the image to contrast it with an image of this region (also from Terra) from June 13, 2008. In June, this region was a brilliant green. There is still green foliage in the October image, but the green is a much darker, mossier color.
