NASA MODIS Image of the Day: November 7, 2007 - Dust over the Red Sea
A dust plume blew off the coast of Saudi Arabia and over the Red Sea on November 3, 2007.
The MODIS on NASA’s Terra satellite took this picture the same day.
This image shows the tan plume blowing in a counter-clockwise direction over the water, toward the shores of Sudan and Egypt. Aside from the plume, skies appear clear, giving a clean view of the arid landscapes on either side of the sea. Dust storms in this region are quite common – to view more images of them, check out the Earth Observatory archive.
