NASA MODIS Image of the Day: November 24, 2007 - Italy
A relatively clear day gave the MODIS on the Aqua satellite this view of Italy on October 15, 2007.
Also shown are the two large islands of Corsica (north) and Sardinia (south).
The island of Sicily is not in this image. Italy’s long boot-shaped peninsula is surrounded by seas. In the east is the Adriatic Sea, near the sole/heel of the “boot” is the Ionian Sea, west of Italy is Tryyhenian Sea, and southwest is the Mediterranean. Italy is bounded by France, Switzerland, Austria, and Slovenia to the north. You can see part of the Alps in the top left corner of the image. There are a few fires on Corsica and Sardinia – they are marked with red dots.
