NASA MODIS Image of the Day: March 5, 2007 – Dust Storm over the Persian Gulf
image03042007_md.jpg
Plumes of dust blew out over the Persian Gulf in this image acquired by the MODIS on the Terra satellite on March 2, 2007. The individual plumes stand out from the mottled green waters of the Gulf, much of it shrounded in dusty brown. The black lines mark the country borders and outline the Persian Gulf – where the dust is thickest, it is hard to distinguish the edges of the water.
The peninsular country of Qatar juts into the Gult. Also surrounding it are (clockwise from top right): Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq. There was another dust storm in this area not long ago, on February 17.
