A bit further south is another salt lake, called Lake Torrens.
It also appears white on the satellite image as it is also usually a dry salt flat.
It has reportedly only been filled with water once in the past 150 years. This lake bed lies north of the Spencer Gulf – in fact it is part of the same rift valley. The Spencer Gulf is a large inlet on the southern coast of Australia. It is west of a second large inlet, the Gulf of St. Vincent. The capital of South Australia, Adelaide, lies on its east coast.
