NASA MODIS Image of the Day: December 15, 2007 - The Mekong River Delta
The Mekong River, one of the longest in the world, flows from Cambodia down into southern Vietnam, where it breaks into four smaller rivers to form the Mekong Delta and empty into the South China Sea.
Sediment from the rivers is visible, as is greenish phytoplankton in the waters.
A clear day over Vietnam on December 3, 2007, gave the MODIS on the Terra satellite this view of the region. Black lines denote country borders. Where there are red dots, the MODIS detected active fires.
