Today I am announcing a major external communications initiative we’ve titled “Telling the Langley Story.” This center-wide activity will help us develop a new, more compelling method to talk about our work, the role we play in NASA and our contributions to the public good.

We’ve found that people outside our gates  from the general public to policy makers to the next-generation workforce  don’t really understand who we are or what we do. Why? One, we don’t always tell them in terms they understand and, two, we often don’t tell them how what we do benefits them directly. We want to change that.

The ‘Langley Story’ initiative will help us communicate in a way that engages our audience and gains their support.

To build our story, we’ll start inside the organization — with you. We want to ensure that all voices are heard and, therefore, I’m inviting all civil servants and contractors to take a short survey that will help identify our strengths. The survey will open Monday, Nov. 30, and will be available for two weeks. It is an online survey that takes about 15-20 minutes to complete.

If you have questions about the “Telling the Langley Story” initiative, contact Marny Skora at ext. 46121 or by email at marny.skora@nasa.gov

I’m looking forward to working with you to better define our story and improve our communication with those outside our gates.
