Description

NASA/JSC has a requirement for equipment as necessary to support sample preparation and analyses of Astromaterial Research Samples within Astromaterials Research and Exploration Science (ARES) laboratories. These upgrades support the Light Stable Isotope, High Pressure, Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry, Experimental Impact and Focused Ion Beam Laboratories. The Statement of Work can be viewed at:

NASA/JSC intends to purchase the items from the small business Workspace-Innovations (WSI). Workspace-Innovations has installed laboratory equipment for existing research and curation facilities within the ARES directorate. NASA’s requirement is for a full turn-key product from design through installation of critical laboratory equipment that supports these research activities described above. Only smooth, seamless epoxy resin work surfaces will meet NASA’s contamination control requirements for handling these rare samples and analog materials. Chemical analyses of the Jamestown Metal Products work surfaces have been completed on material samples provided to NASA during previous projects, and uniquely qualifies these work surfaces.

The Government does not intend to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Based upon market research, the Government is not using the policies contained in Part 12, Acquisition of Commercial Items, in its solicitation for the described supplies or services. Such capabilites/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of the government.
