Description

NASA/JSC is hereby soliciting information about potential sources for a flight experiment to test advanced Global Positioning System (GPS) technology, including fast satellite acquisition technology. The flight experiment will be conducted aboard the Space Shuttle. The purpose of this detailed testing objective is to ascertain the applications of the fast satellite acquisition technology to future NASA programs.

NASA/JSC has identified Honeywell International (HI) as a potential source. HI manufactures and sells a commercial Mercury GPS. HI is developing a radiation hardened version of the commercial Mercury receiver that incorporates fast satellite acquisition technology developed by Goddard Space Flight Center. This radiation hardened version of the GPS receiver is being developed to support future space program offerings including the Orion program. The radiation hardened version of this receiver is not ready for use in a space application at this time. HI is converting the commercial Mercury receiver from a commercial (non radiation hardened) IBM PowerPC EP440 processor to a radiation hardened version to support future space applications.

Potential offerors will need to obtain a license from NASA Goddard Space Flight Center for the NASA developed fast-satellite acquisition technology.

No solicitation exists; therefore, do not request a copy of the solicitation. If a solicitation is released it will be synopsized in FedBizOpps and on the NASA Acquisition Internet Service. It is the potential offeror’s responsibility to monitor these sites for the release of any solicitation or synopsis.

Vendors having the capabilities necessary to meet or exceed the stated requirements are invited to submit appropriate documentation, literature, brochures, and references.
