NASA’s Space Technology Mission Directorate, has released a Request For Information, entitled “Concepts for Lightweight Power and Data Cables” that can be accessed in NSPIRES via the following URL:http://nspires.nasaprs.com/external/solicitations/summary.do?method=init&solId={D5099CAE-9120-6463-6355-64DED33CD78D}&path=open

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is continually looking for opportunities to help advance the development of commercial space products and services. With the recent increase of U.S. private-sector companies interested in space exploration, and the associated terrestrial spin-off applications, NASA is seeking to better understand U.S. industry’s interests in a myriad of exploration activities. One such activity of interest is lightweight power and data cables. NASA is particularly interested in replacing copper power conductors with a lower mass conductor and insulating layer.

NASA may use the information gathered through this RFI to develop collaborations and to identify suppliers and manufacturers with the capability to manufacture components, cables, connectors and assemblies using lightweight wiring concepts with the potential to reduce the wiring mass by up to 90%.

The response Date is March 19, 2015 (5:00pm Eastern). Instructions for submitting a response are included in the RFI.
