All ISS systems continue to function nominally, except those noted previously or below. Sunday – crew off duty. Ahead: Week 7 of Increment 27.

Upon wake-up, CDR Kondratyev performed the regular daily check of the aerosol filters at the Russian Elektron O2 (oxygen) generator. [Maxim Suraev installed these filters on 10/19/09 in gaps between the BZh Liquid Unit and the oxygen outlet pipe (filter FA-K) plus hydrogen outlet pipe (filter FA-V). Dmitri inspects the filters again before bedtime tonight, currently a daily requirement per plan, with photographs to be taken if the filter packing is discolored.]

FE-3 Garan, FE-5 Nespoli & FE-6 Coleman completed another post-sleep session of the Reaction Self Test (Psychomotor Vigilance Self Test on the ISS) protocol. It was the 7th for Ron, the 30th for Paolo & Cady. [RST is done twice daily (after wakeup & before bedtime) for 3 days prior to the sleep shift, the day(s) of the sleep shift and 5 days following a sleep shift. The experiment consists of a 5-minute reaction time task that allows crewmembers to monitor the daily effects of fatigue on performance while on ISS. The experiment provides objective feedback on neurobehavioral changes in attention, psychomotor speed, state stability, and impulsivity while on ISS missions, particularly as they relate to changes in circadian rhythms, sleep restrictions, and extended work shifts.]

The six-member crew joined in conducting the regular weekly three-hour task of thorough cleaning of their home, including COL (Columbus Orbital Laboratory) and Kibo JPM (JEM Pressurized Module). [“Uborka”, usually done on Saturdays, includes removal of food waste products, cleaning of compartments with vacuum cleaner, damp cleaning of the SM (Service Module) dining table, other frequently touched surfaces and surfaces where trash is collected, as well as the sleep stations with a standard cleaning solution; also, fan screens and grilles are cleaned to avoid temperature rises. Special cleaning is also done every 90 days on the HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) bacteria filters in the Lab.]

As part of the uborka house cleaning, CDR, FE-1 & FE-2 completed regular maintenance inspection & cleaning of Group E fan grilles (VPkhO, FS5, FS6, VP) in the SM.

The Russian crewmembers worked in support of Progress 42P-delivered biotech research payloads:

With Andrey Borisenko taking pictures, Alex Samokutyayev removed the BTKh-26 KASKAD (Cascade) experiment from the KRIOGEM-03 cooler (+4 degC) in the SM and set it up in its bioreactor in the Russian Glavboks-S (Glovebox/GB), then serviced the bioreactor. After Dmitri Kondratyev had installed the KT thermostatic container with its BUP-06 control unit, Sasha extracted the bioreactor from the GB, mixed it in the KT container and stored it in the TBU-V (Universal Bioengineering Thermostat V) thermostatic container (+29degC) in the MRM2 module while Dima shot documentary photography. [KASKAD investigates cell cultivation of microorganisms, animals and human in microgravity to obtain concentrated biomass (emulsion) with a high content of cells, providing the increased output of target BAS (bioactive substances). The BIOEMULSIYA science hardware includes a closed-type autonomous bioreactor in a bag, the KT thermostat (temperature-controlled)-body with BUP-06 actuator control unit and the onboard KRIOGEM-03 cooler.]

Meanwhile, Borisenko used the biotech procedure BTKh-39 ASEPTIK of air & surface sampling to determine the degree of sterilization of the Glavboks during its use for KASKAD, accompanied by situational photography. Later in the day, Andrey monitored the automatic shutoff of the ASEPTIK’s pump, retrieved the sample from the GB and set it up for incubation. [ASEPTIK evaluates procedural reliability & effectiveness for methods & equipment to provide aseptic conditions for on-orbit biotechnological experiments. It supports the development of a flow chart for control checks of the sterility of the Glovebox-S hardware and other equipment.]

FE-6 Cady Coleman went on a search for missing hardware required for future FCF (Fluids Combustion Facility) operations – a kit with DuPont Krytox lubricant for the FCF, plus two kits with connector caps for MDCA (Multi-user Droplet Combustion Apparatus) and CIR (Combustion Integrated Rack) IRR. [The FCF Krytox Kit, MDCA Connector Cap Kit, and the CIR IRR Connector Cap Kit were last used during the CIR activities in on 2/9-10/11. Cady was to check two ZSRs (Zero-g Stowage Racks), one in COL, the other in Node-1.]

CDR Kondratyev conducted the routine daily servicing of the SOZh system (Environment Control & Life Support System, ECLSS) in the SM, including the weekly collection of the toilet flush (SP) counter and water supply (SVO) readings for calldown to TsUP-Moscow. [This includes checking the ASU toilet facilities, replacement of the KTO & KBO solid waste containers and replacement of EDV-SV waste water and EDV-U urine containers].

CDR, FE-3, FE-5 & FE-6 were scheduled for their weekly PFCs (Private Family Conferences) via S-band/audio and Ku-band/MS-NetMeeting application (which displays the uplinked ground video on an SSC laptop), Dima at ~9:00am, Paolo at ~9:50am, Ron at ~11:25am, Cady at ~4:25pm EDT.

The crew worked out with their regular 2-hr physical exercise protocol on the CEVIS cycle ergometer with vibration isolation (FE-3, FE-6), ARED advanced resistive exercise device (CDR, FE-2, FE-3, FE-5, FE-6), T2/COLBERT advanced treadmill (CDR, FE-1, FE-2, FE-5) and VELO ergometer bike with load trainer (FE-1).
