Message from the NASA Administrator – Sept. 8, 2009

The Review of U.S. Human Space Flight Plans Committee provided a summary of its report to Dr. John Holdren, the Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) and me today. As expected, and as I mentioned to you in my first update last month, the summary is consistent with the presentations made during the committee’s final public meeting on Aug. 12. The summary will be published on the committee’s Web site today. We will release the full report when it is final, but until the options it lays out are thoroughly considered, it would be premature for anyone at NASA to draw conclusions from the committee’s work.

In anticipation of the final report, we continue to work with OSTP and other representatives from the Executive Office of the President on our strategy to review and evaluate the options put forth by the committee. Ultimately, of course, the President will make the final decision.

We will keep you updated on any new developments. Meanwhile, staying focused on our current missions remains our top priority.
