Special Message from James L. Jennings, Associate Deputy

Administrator for Institutions & Asset Management

Mission Safety Climate & Culture Survey

Last month, I sent several communications requesting your
participation in NASA’s Mission Safety Climate and Culture
Survey. As testimony to your personal commitment, we achieved a
commendable 41 percent response rate. I would like to personally
thank those of you who took the time to complete the survey.
Your input is invaluable as the agency prepares to return to
flight and implement the President’s vision for U.S. Space
Exploration.

Behavioral Science Technology, Inc., the contractor who
administered the survey, has been actively analyzing the results
since the Web site closed on February 26. The data collected
will provide the agency with a baseline measurement of culture
elements important to NASA’s safety assurance and overall
organizational excellence. The results will also help us design a
framework for strengthening our safety culture. Once the
information is analyzed, I will forward the complete survey
results.

Completion of the survey is only one step in our ongoing effort
to improve NASA’s organizational and safety climate and culture.
Soon, you will see more support of this effort. I promise to
keep you informed of these activities.

Thank you again for your participation and your dedication to our
mission to make NASA a better, safer and more productive
organization.
