Description
The NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) Laser / Lidar Technology Working Group (LWG) is currently preparing a set of high-level national roadmaps that will form the foundation of the GSFC’s strategic investment plan on Lidar and other laser based instrumentation, including free space laser communications (FSLC). Part of this Working Group’s charter is to assess the Laser/Lidar capabilities currently available in the marketplace. The purpose of this RFI is to solicit general capability information from private industry, universities and other entities to assist with the roadmap development process, with the goal of ensuring that the best and widest possible set of capabilities is considered in the formulation of GSFC’s plans for the future. It is anticipated that the final roadmaps and the integrated architecture may ultimately contribute to NASA GSFC strategic investment decisions, but this RFI in no way constitutes a commitment of future funding opportunities from NASA.
Interested organizations are invited to submit to the NASA point of contact listed below a description of their Laser/Lidar technical and resource/facility capabilities relevant to space applications. This submittal should also describe the organization’s experience and past performance in the areas of space-based lidar systems and FSLC. Capability Statements should include an executive summary, not to exceed two pages, to address any major initiatives or other items that the organization wishes to highlight. As part of its assessment of industry capabilities, the GSFC LWG may contact respondents to this RFI if clarification or further information is needed, however, the Government is under no obligation to have discussions with any or all respondents.
Capability Statements shall be submitted to the point of contact listed below and must be received by close of business Friday, June 2, 2006. Statements may be submitted electronically via email, by fax, or by regular mail, to the addresses listed below.
Any information obtained as a result of this RFI is intended to be used by the Government on a non-attribution basis for roadmap development. NASA is not planning any acquisition as a result of this RFI. No solicitation exists; therefore, do not request a copy of the solicitation.
