Subject: Diversity and Inclusion Assessment Survey

Yesterday, you received an e-mail message from Administrator Bolden regarding the distribution of an Agency-wide Diversity and Inclusion Assessment Survey to all NASA employees. As Charlie said in his note, NASA is committed to practicing the principles of Diversity and Inclusion, and I can assure you that the leadership team here at Goddard is just as committed to those principles.

GSFC has a long-standing Diversity and Inclusion Policy that commits us to developing an organizational climate whereby Goddard employees respect, appreciate, and value individual differences in order to capitalize on the strengths of a diverse workforce to better perform our mission through teamwork and innovation.

Although, there have been many surveys over the years, this is the first survey to specifically address diversity and inclusion. I would urge you to take the time to complete this survey, and as you do, please consider how your answers will help to assess the current state of Diversity and Inclusion at Goddard. Your answers should reflect how you understand Goddard’s Diversity and Inclusion policies and programs, and how they inform and promote the Agencys broader initiatives.

NASA, through its contractor Westat, will begin administering this web-based survey in the next day or so. Individual submissions by participants will go directly to Westat, who will keep all responses strictly confidential. Westat will provide only overall and group results to NASA. No individuals will be identifiable in any reports of findings.

Again, I strongly encourage your participation in this important survey. The information provided will help guide not only NASA, but our Center as well, in developing thoughtful and impactful policies and programs to further our Diversity and Inclusion goals.
