SUBJECT: The Great Worden Quake of 07 (GWQ 07) Exercise Development Team
As you probably all know by now, the center will be conducting a major disaster exercise on May 11, 2007. It is Dr. Worden’s desire that we all participate to the fullest extent reasonable.
In order to make this day as meaningful as possible for the majority of Ames personnel, the Exercise Development Team would like to give you a heads up on what you will likely experience on May 11.
At 9 a.m., everyone that has not been excused from participating will evacuate the building that they are in and assemble at the designated location per the Building’s Emergency Action Plan.
After the initial attempt to account for personnel, all personnel that are physically capable of walking to the Hangar 211 tarmac will be expected to do so. Individuals that have special needs will be transported to 211. At 211, personnel will be briefed on the status of the “disaster.”
Supervisors/managers, including contract managers, will have the opportunity to meet with the appropriate organizational directors to receive additional direction. Supervisors/managers will be given sealed packets with more disaster information.
Around 10 a.m. and after being released from 211, most personnel will be allowed to return to their respective buildings. At that point, supervisors and/or managers will lead their group in a roundtable discussion. The discussion will be based on disaster information and injects provided to the supervisors/managers.
Around 12 noon, a picnic lunch will be provided for all Ames personnel.
Between 9 a.m. and 12 noon, the exercise will include the following:
Simulated Mass Casualties
Search and Rescue
Facility Condition Evaluation
Damage and Utility Control
Activation of the Emergency Operations Center
Special Briefing to the Executive Council
Between 12 noon and 4 p.m., the exercise will include a hazardous materials incident.
At approximately 1 p.m., a “tabletop” exercise will be conducted for members of the Executive Council.
Between 4 p.m. on the 11th and 6 p.m. on May 12, a collapsed structure rescue exercise will be conducted.
We still need volunteers for the exercise.
We’re in the process of developing a Web page on the Protective Services Office (PSO) Web site where we will have information on the GWQ 07. It will include a frequently asked question section. The PSO Web site is http://jp.arc.nasa.gov/ It should be up by the end of this week.
If you have any questions, would like to respond to this email or would like to volunteer, contact Robert Dolci at bdolci@mail.arc.nasa.gov
