Welcome Back Ames Family
Office of the Center Director
Ames Family,
Welcome back to work!
I know that it has been a long and stressful five weeks and that you’re all looking forward to continuing your amazing work for the Center, Agency and the Nation. Nothing can fully replace the time that we’ve lost in our work, and with our colleagues, but I know that you are ready and eager to move forward in advancing our missions and programs in human exploration, science, aeronautics, space technology and mission support.
The Center will officially re-open on Monday (1/28) morning at 6 a.m. Unless on leave, all civil servant supervisors and managers on regular day shifts should return to work status by 10 a.m. All other employees on a regular schedule, who are not on leave, should return to work status (physically or by telework) by 1 p.m. on Monday. Employees who need more time to return to work should contact their supervisors. Supervisors are encouraged to grant leave and/or telework options for those employees who request more time to return to work. Contractor employees should contact their managers for specific guidance on returning to work.
Additional guidance and information will be forthcoming over the next few days. We are planning for an Agency/Center Town Hall meeting on Tuesday, as well as specific “Drop-in” opportunities during the week to address issues with IT access and expired certificates and badges. Please check your email regularly as we will also be sending out more detailed information shortly on Center services (e.g. Cafeteria, Fitness Center, Health Unit, Child Care Center).
I know that many members of our Ames Family have experienced hardship and stress during the government shutdown. I want to thank everyone for your perseverance and support of your colleagues during this difficult period. I have personally witnessed and heard about countless examples where people provided support and assistance to one another. Finally, as we work towards a return to normal operations, I thank you in advance for your patience as we all deal with the backlog of issues and actions that have resulted from the shutdown.
