Message from the Director of Strategic Communications and Development Directorate. All Hands Meeting on NASA’s Communications Policy, Thursday, October 18, 2007, at 10 AM.

Robert P. Hopkins, NASA’s chief of strategic communications and assistant administrator for the Office of Communications Planning, will present and discuss the agency’s policy on the release of information to news media, Thursday, October, 18, 2007, at 10 AM, in the Main Auditorium (N-201). The presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer period.

Hopkins became NASA’s chief of strategic communications, effective June 6, 2007. The position oversees the Office of Communications Planning, Education, Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs and Public Affairs. He is also the assistant administrator for the Office of Communications Planning at NASA Headquarters. The office provides long-term strategic communications messaging and planning and performs vital outreach coordination functions across NASA program offices, mission directorates, and centers. The office also manages all agency commercial strategic partnerships and alliances. Previously, Hopkins served as the senior advisor to NASA Deputy Administrator Shana Dale.

The policy, available at http://www.nasa.gov/commpolicy, establishes clear areas of responsibility and coordination methods intended to improve NASA’s communications process. All Ames employees interested in communications and scientific openness are encouraged to attend.
