NASA Announces NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC) Phase III, 80HQTR20NOA01-20NIAC-A3 Opportunity

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Headquarters released the solicitation titled “NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC) Phase III,” as an Appendix to the NASA Research Announcement (NRA): Space Technology Research, Development, Demonstration, and Infusion – 2020 (SpaceTech-REDDI-2020), 80HQTR20NOA01.” The NIAC Program supports innovative research through Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III studies. Appendix 80HQTR20NOA01-20NIAC_A3 seeks NIAC Phase III studies that are designed to strategically transition NIAC concepts with the highest potential impact to other NASA programs, other government agencies, or commercial partners. NIAC Phase I studies explore the overall viability and advance the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of visionary concepts and Phase II studies develop the most promising Phase I concepts and explore transition paths within NASA and beyond.

 

Eligibility: This Appendix is open this year (FY 2020) to all categories of U.S organizations with current or successfully completed NIAC Phase II studies, as well as prior Phase II studies completed under the predecessor NASA Institute for Advanced Concepts. For FY 2021 and beyond, it is anticipated that only successfully completed or active second year NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts Phase II awards will be considered eligible for Phase III award.

 

Key Dates: 

 

       Mandatory Preliminary Proposal Due: January 3, 2020, 5pm ET

       Invitations for Final Proposal development sent by: January 23, 2020 (Target)

       Final Proposal Due: March 5, 2020, 5pm ET

       Selection Date: April 6, 2020 (Target)

       Award Date: September 1, 2020 (Target)
