Increment: 5

Stage: UF2

Week 18

STS/ISS Joint Operations are progressing as planned and will last until
Wednesday, 10/16. Yesterday’s robotic arm operations in conjunction
with EVA#1 successfully attached the 45 foot S1 Truss to the ISS. After
two very busy days, the crew is having some off-duty time today and will
be performing transfer operations and other internal activities. EVA#2
is planned tomorrow to continue activating S1 Truss services.

Payloads launched on STS-112/9A:
CGBA, CGBA Sortie Science Insert, PGBA, STES-7, and ZCG Samples

Payloads to be returned on STS-112:
ADVASC, CGBA Sortie Science Insert, MEPS Samples, SAMS Hard Drive/Battery,
StelSys, STES-8, and ZCG Samples

Part 2 of the In-Flight maintenance procedure to correct the CGBA Sortie
Science Insert thermal control problem was unsuccessful today. Part 1
had been implemented yesterday. Three experiments are contained in the
insert. As a result of the thermal control problem, Experiment 1 science
may be compromised, Experiment 2 science is assumed to be lost and Experiment
3 is expected to be completely successful.

MEPS and ZCG samples have been transferred from the ISS to the STS for
return.

Payloads currently on-board ISS: ADVASC (HW), BSTC, InSPACE, MAMS, MEPS,
MSG (facility), PFMI, SAMS, SUBSA and ZCG. InSpace was not planned to
operate during this stage.

Status:
MRPO payloads MAMS and SAMS continue nominal operations. ADVASC, BSTC,
MEPS, StelSys, STES-8, SUBSA and ZCG operations have been successfully
completed.

EXPRESS RACKS 1 and 4 (ER1 & ER4) are powered and supporting payload
operations. The ER2 grounding strap was replaced today and rack power
is being restored in preparation for ZCG operations to begin tomorrow.
ER3 is installed in the US Lab and will be checked out later. ER5 was
checked out during Increment 4 and powered down.

ADVASC has been deactivated and the growth chamber has been prepared
for return on STS-112.

The StelSys samples are to be removed from ARTIC 1, placed in a cryodewar
and transferred to STS-112 for return today.

The ZCG samples that have been stowed in ARTIC 2 have been removed and
transferred to STS-112 for return. New ZCG samples will be transferred
from the STS, installed in the ZCG furnace and activated tomorrow.

MAMS is operating nominally in the quasi-steady and HiRAP modes. HiRAP
was turned-on prior to STS-112/9A docking. MAMS data is available on the
acceleration measurement web page.

MSG power has been turned-off following completion of PFMI operations
and. there are no plans to re-power MSG during joint operations.

PFMI planned operations have been completed and payload power has been
turned-off. Additional PFMI operations may be planned after completion
of STS/ISS joint operations.

All SAMS sensors in EXPRESS Racks are operating nominally. The SAMS
sensor in the MSG is turned-off. SAMS data is also being posted to the
acceleration measurement web page.

STES-8 is powered for active thermal control and is nominal. All growth
chambers have been deactivated. STES-7 and STES-8 are to be exchanged
in ER4 and all six growth chambers of STES-7 are to be activated today.
STES-8 will continue to be powered on the STS Mid-Deck for return.

Near-term Outlook:

Week 18 (10/7-10/13) –Reboost #1 of ISS to a higher orbit and EVA
#2 are planned Saturday. New ZCG samples will be transferred from the
shuttle mid-deck and installed in the ZCG furnace, located in ER2, and
activated. PGBA will also be transferred from the shuttle mid-deck, installed
in ER4 and activated.

Week 19 (10/14-10/20) – Reboost #2 and EVA #3 are planned for Monday
10/14. Tuesday, 10/15, will be a crew off-duty day and 9A undock is planned
for Wednesday 10/16. CGBA will be transferred from the shuttle mid-deck
and installed in ER4.
