Artemis Team Announcement

Welcome to the Artemis Generation!

Today, Vice President Mike Pence unveiled the 18 NASA astronauts selected as part of the Artemis Team during the National Space Council meeting at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

This very exciting announcement officially ushers in the Artemis Generation and the women and men who will help us see it through. These astronauts are eligible for flight assignments on early Artemis program Moon missions, which includes the first woman and next man to walk on the lunar surface. You can see the list of selected astronauts and learn more about the Artemis Team by visiting: https://www.nasa.gov/artemisteam

We have a lot of work to accomplish before then, and the astronauts of the Artemis Team will help NASA prepare for the coming Artemis missions, which begin next year working with the agency’s commercial partners as they develop human landing systems; assisting in the development of training; defining hardware requirements; and consulting on technical development. They also will engage the public and industry on the Artemis program and NASA’s exploration plans.

Our 21st century space exploration goals are bold and ambitious, but are within reach with this outstanding team and the tens of thousands of us supporting them. Many late nights and long hours lay before us as we work to establish a sustainable human presence on the Moon that will prepare us to send astronauts to Mars. It will require our best, and if we give it our best, I am confident the Artemis program will deliver some of history’s most significant scientific discoveries and technological advancements.

Ad astra,
