Memo to LockheedMartin Employees Regarding Hurricane Katrina from Bob Stevens, Chairman, President & CEO
Memorandum
To: Lockheed Martin Employees
Date: September 1, 2005
From: Bob Stevens, Chairman, President & CEO
Subject: Hurricane Katrina
Fellow Employees:
As we have all seen, the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina has been devastating to the Gulf Coast, including communities where Lockheed Martin has operations. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this disaster.
I am proud to say that our Lockheed Martin team has mobilized as quickly as possible to help fellow employees and others in their hour of need.
One of the first actions was to set up the Lockheed Martin Hurricane Katrina Hotline for employees to call for assistance, staffed by employee volunteers. The response to this hotline has been so overwhelming that we immediately had to double the number of volunteers staffing the lines, set up a special operations room for this effort, and extend its hours of operation.
The toll-free hotline is available for employees affected by the hurricane to call at (800) 563-8442 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern time, Monday through Friday. Operators will assist in answering employee questions or guide them to the appropriate resource for assistance. The volunteer team is keeping a log of callers to track employee status and is feeding this information to augment what the business units have collected.
Another excellent source of information is www.lockheedmartin.com that employees can use to get the latest updates on facilities, how to contribute to the relief effort and other hurricane related news.
I know that many of you would like to immediately travel to the affected areas and lend a hand. At this time I would ask that you refrain from doing this due to emergency restrictions on travel to and from the areas impacted. The best thing to do is to support the Red Cross by visiting the Red Cross’s Web site at www.redcross.org or calling 866-GET-INFO. An alternate phone line is 800-HELP-NOW.
Please keep in mind that this is a very dynamic situation. Few of us have ever witnessed a natural disaster of this sweeping magnitude, so it will take the continued patience of employees and organizations as we go forward. We continue to evaluate the circumstances as they unfold and we will do our best to keep you informed of major developments as our efforts continue.
I would like to thank all those from throughout the Corporation who are helping with this effort from Human Resources, Security, Communications, the Ethics office, affected programs, management and the business units. Your efforts are greatly appreciated — and making a difference!
