MASA JSC Today Special: Aug. 29 Tropical Storm Harvey Update
The Center will be closed until Tuesday, Sept. 5 to all but Mission Essential personnel. The group of Mission Essential personnel will be larger in the coming days due to mission operations and you will be contacted by your organization if you’re needed. Please do not come to the center until you hear from your supervisor. Civil servants should look for an email from HR with instructions for excused leave for this time period. Contractors should talk to their contract company management for directions and further information.
Harvey is forecast to make a second landfall near the TX/LA state line around sunrise Wednesday. No strengthening is forecast prior to landfall.
Impacts to JSC: JSC will continue to see moderate to occasionally heavy rain today into this evening. An additional 1.5 to 3 inches is possible through midnight. There are indications of a significant break in rainfall beginning this evening. A few showers and storms overnight wrapping around Harvey could bring an additional 1 to 2 inches of rainfall. Winds will continue to be breezy at JSC today with average winds of 20 to 30 mph and occasional gusts of 40 to 45 mph possible.
Mission Essential Personnel can report through Gate 3 (Hilton Gate). As always, check your route to site before your drive, do not drive into standing water, and stay safe.
EAP is suspending normal operations to provide mental health first aid. Employees experiencing emotional crisis can call our main number 281-483-6130 and they will be routed to one of our counselors. We will be providing stress debriefings to all JSC work groups in the coming weeks as people return to work.
