Launch / Days since Launch = Nov. 7, 1996 / 2086 days

Start of Mapping / Days since Start of Mapping = April 1, 1999 / 1211 days

Total Mapping Orbits = 15,094

Total Orbits = 16,777

Recent Events:

Background Sequences – The spacecraft is operating nominally in performing the beta-supplement daily recording and transmission of science data. The mm196 sequence executed successfully from 02-199 (7/18/02) through 02-201 (7/20/02). The mm197 sequence has performed well since it started on 02-202 (7/21/02). It terminates on 02-205 (7/24/02). The mm198 sequence, successfully uplinked on 02-204 (723/02), begins executing near the end of day on 02-205 (7/24/02).

Other – Seven Roll Only Targeted Observations (ROTOs) were performed successfully by the mz190 & mz191 mini-sequences. MGS has completed 282 ROTOs to date.

MGS performed another Flex Mode Test of the SA panels on DOY 199. The results are pending.

Spacecraft Health:

Spacecraft subsystems report good health and status. The science teams are investigating the cause of the PDS soft resets from last week.

Uplinks:

There have been 17 uplinks to the spacecraft during the past week, including star catalogs and ephemeris files covering 20 days, instrument command loads, the mz190 and mz191 ROTO mini-sequences, and the mm197 and mm198 background sequences. 6,898 command files have been radiated to the spacecraft since launch.

Upcoming Events:

The MGS S/C team is preparing for solar conjunction. The next 2 background sequences [mm200 (13 days, 214 -226) and mm201 (5 days, 227-231)] shall cover the solar conjunction period. Downlink during solar conjunction shall be real time, low rate data only with no playbacks. Recording will be done throughout the sequences on SSR 2A only, should a playback of recent data be necessary. The CLT will be set to 18 days. MOC will be turned off and it’s heaters turned on prior to mm200. There will be no ranging during these sequences. The telecom subsystem will be configured back to normal Beta Supplement operations at the end of sequence mm201.

ROTOs are suspended until after solar conjunction.
