Mars Exploration Program Advanced Technologies added to “Research Opportunities in Space Science” (NRA 03-OSS-01)

AMENDMENT No. 5 TO THE NASA RESEARCH ANNOUNCEMENT (NRA)
ENTITLED “RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES IN SPACE SCIENCE (ROSS) 2003,” NRA
03-OSS-01, RELEASED JANUARY 31, 2003

On or about May 2, 2003, Amendment No. 5 to NASA Research
Announcement “Research Opportunities in Space Science” (NRA 03-OSS-
01) will be posted on its homepage Web site at

http://research.hq.nasa.gov/code_s/nra/current/NRA-03-OSS-
01/index.html

that establishes a new Program Element A.2.20 in Appendix A
entitled “Mars Exploration Program Advanced Technologies.” This new
Program Element solicits proposals for technology development needs
of missions to be launched to Mars during or after the 2009 launch
opportunity. In particular, the following technology areas have
been identified as of highest priority for this solicitation:
subsurface access, rover technology, telecommunications and
navigation, planetary protection, advanced entry, descent, and
landing (EDL), and technologies for low cost missions. Notices of
Intent to propose are due May 30, 2003, and proposals
are due August 1, 2003.
