International Space Station Crew Completes Another Workweek

On Friday, Expedition 7 completed a busy week of educational activities and science operations. During their 14th week aboard the International Space Station, Commander Yuri Malenchenko and NASA ISS Science Officer Ed Lu also practiced operating Canadarm2, the Station’s robotic arm.

The highlight of the week occurred on Tuesday, when Malenchenko and Lu took time to commemorate the 1,000th day of human habitation on the ISS. The first crew arrived on Nov. 2, 2000, and the Station has hosted 20 Americans and 20 Russians as Expedition crewmembers since that time.

During the week, Lu worked with the Coarsening in Solid Liquid Mixtures, an experiment in the Microgravity Science Glovebox. Malenchenko participated in several Russian medical studies, gathering data on the effects of microgravity on the human body during long-duration space flight.

Malenchenko and Lu talked to 25 educators at Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, Calif., on Thursday. The educators are participating in the NASA Explorer Schools program.
