Internal Memo regarding George Allen Flynt as the new Director of NASA JSC MOD
The information below is from Lee Briscoe. Please be sure to disseminate this to all of your civil servant and contractor supervisors in your organizations. Lee wanted them to be able to answer any questions they might receive concerning Mr. Flynt’s return to the Center.
1. ALLEN IS RETURNING FROM A YEAR LONG ROTATION AS THE DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF AMES RESEARCH CENTER TO ASSUME THE DIRECTORSHIP OF MOD.
2. WE HAVE ALREADY BEEN VISITING WITH ALLEN ABOUT HIM COMING TO MOD AND HE IS VERY EXCITED AND ANXIOUS TO BECOME A PART OF SUCH A GREAT ORGANIZATION.
3. AS FAR AS I CAN REMEMBER (I MAY BE WRONG), HE WILL BE THE FIRST NON MOD/FCOD PERSON ASSUMING THE DIRECTORSHIP. I BELIEVE THAT THIS WILL BE GOOD FOR MOD AND ALLEN. IT IS TIME FOR SOME NEW PERSPECTIVES/IDEAS.
4. ALLEN IS WELL RESPECTED BY THE VARIOUS CENTER DIRECTORS AND NASA HQ MANAGERS AND HAS ACCESS TO THEM. I BELIEVE HIM TO BE A GREAT MANAGER AND LEADER. HE WILL OF COURSE NEED THE HELP OF OUR GREAT TEAM TO GET HIM STARTED AND TO CONTINUE THE OUTSTANDING WORK OF MOD. MOD IS AS ALWAYS A TEAM OF FOLKS THAT MAKE THINGS HAPPEN.
5. WHEN IT WAS ANNOUNCED TO THE MOD MANAGERS THAT ALLEN WAS TO BE OUR NEXT DIRECTOR, THERE WERE NUMEROUS COMMENTS FROM THOSE WHO HAD WORKED WITH HIM OVER THE YEARS. THESE TESTIMONIALS CAME FROM SCHOOL ACQUAINTENANCES, FOLKS WHO HAVE WORKED WITH HIM IN THE EVA PROJECT ARENA, AND FOLKS WHO WORKED WITH HIM DURING THE 107 RECOVERY OPERATIONS IN EAST TEXAS. ADDITIONALLY, AS THE RUMOR MILL WAS WORKING WELL, I HAVE HEARD SEVERAL GOOD COMMENTS FROM THE CONTRACTOR AREAS.
6. AT THIS TIME IT IS EXPECTED THAT ALLEN WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RETURN TO JSC FULL TIME UNTIL AROUND JULY, BUT HE WILL BE VISITING US SEVERAL TIMES TILL THEN. WE CAN BEGIN TO BRING HIM UP TO SPEED ON OUR ACTIVITIES DURING THESE VISITS, DEPENDING ON WHAT HE WOULD LIKE TO TALK ABOUT. I HAVE ALREADY DONE A MAJOR DATA DUMP ON HIM AND HAD ABOUT A HALF DAY DISCUSSION WITH HIM ON MOD WHILE HE WAS IN TOWN FOR THE ROTARY AWARDS AND STONE’S RETIREMENT. NEEDLESS TO SAY, HE WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH ALL WE DO.
7. I WILL NEED YOUR HELP AS ALWAYS. THIS TIME EVEN MORE, TO MAKE THIS A SMOOTH TRANSITION AND CONTINUE THE MOD STANDARD OF EXCELLENCE WELL INTO THE FUTURE. THANKS MUCH, LEE

As Manager, EVA Project Office, the incumbent manages the activities associated with developing NASA extravehicular activity (EVA) capabilities, including development of EVA hardware, integration standards, capabilities, services, techniques, templates and other information necessary to provide EVA services. Responsibilities also include defining, developing, verifying and integrating EVA operational capabilities in support of NASA and Customer requirements. These activities include negotiating agreements with other NASA Centers, Space Shuttle and International Space Station Programs, and External Customer organizations and the coordination and flow down of these agreements to other offices within the project and Center in the form of integrated requirements, schedules and budgets to provide those services.
