Background information on the transmission:
Replay: 25 December 11:00-11:30 GMT
In the night 24-25 December, the Huygens probe will be separated from the Cassini orbiter. The scheduled separation time is 03:08 GMT. This critical operation is the starting point of a 21-day descent of Huygens towards Titan, where it is scheduled to dive in to the atmosphere on 14 January 2005.
The ESA-TV Service will produce a B-roll with images recorded at JPL of the separation. The anticipated content of the B-roll is as follows:
- – Views go/no-go decision for Huygens separation
- – Views Mission Control at separation confirmation
- – Soundbites ESA and NASA officials
- – Exterior views JPL
- – 3-D graphics Huygens separation & arrival at Titan
The package has a run time of about 10 minutes and will be replayed once per 30-minute transmission slot.
