HMP Research Station Field Update July 28, 2005

Today provided us with the type of weather you would want a brochure, sunny and warm. Everyone wanted to be outside to enjoy this day. It was also the perfect weather to testing the concept space suit from Hamilton Sundstrand. Over the course of the next week the Hamilton Sundstrand team will test the suit in various scenarios including as part of traverse with the Mars Institute’s Mars-1 Humvee Rover. Tomorrow we’ll have a photo report of the Hamilton Sundstrand space suit activity.

Other activities today included the ongoing geology field work, MIT logistics research and Dr. Jeff Jones continuing his soil sampling, this time in and around the HMP Research Station. Dr. Jones is collecting samples from throughout Devon Island for a planetary protection study. He’ll also be sampling unvisited locations looking to see if the human associated microbes have altered the local microflora.

Today we also have another Arthur Clarke Mars Greenhouse Photo Report, this time after upgrades have completed and the greenhouse in now running in autonomous mode.

And lastly since the weather was so good we created a new panorama in Quicktime format of the HMP Research Station and the surrounding area.
