Hearing: Threats from Space: A Review of Non-U.S. Government Efforts to Track and Mitigate Asteroids and Meteors, Part II

2318 Rayburn House Office Building

April 10, 2:00 p.m. Full Committee

Chairman Smith:”In our first hearing we learned that of the estimated 20,000 asteroids that could be labeled as ‘city killers,’ we have identified only ten percent. And we are unlikely to have the means to detect them until 2030. This won’t be an effort of one agency, one company, or one country. It is our responsibility to allocate the resources necessary to protect Americans from threats. But to do so, we must first recognize how the private sector contributes to this effort.”
