H-II A Mission Status: DEOS-II vs. Microsatellite
On Nov. 20, mating operations of microsatellites with their separation parts
were continued. An Australian scientific satellite called FedSat was mated
with its separation part on the 20th.
FedSat and the Whale Ecology Observation Satellite (WEOS), which was mated
with its separation part on the previous day, are a 50 cm cube weighing
approximately 58 kg.
By contrast, the primary satellite, the Advanced Earth Observing
Satellite-II (ADEOS-II) is a 4m x 4m x 6m box weighing about 3.7 tons. Now
you can see how small microsatellites are.
ADEOS-II is currently under preparation work for being attached to its
separation part.
