Subject: GI: GOES-12 Anomaly Status Update 12/4/07 – Issued 12/6/07
Topic: GOES-12 Anomaly Status Update
Message Issued: December 6, 2007, 1710 UTC
Satellites Impacted: GOES-12
Products Impacted: GOES-10 GVAR, LRIT, and DCS Rebroadcast
Date/Time of Initial Impact: December 6, 2007 1515 UTC

Details:

GOES-12 remains in power positive stationkeeping mode (thruster attitude control) with all subsytems safe. The anomaly that caused the attitude disturbances on GOES-12 has been identified by NESDIS engineers, and NESDIS will attempt to return to normal on orbit mode at approximately 2300 UTC today. If successful, GOES-12 will be once again monitored closely throughout the night and the day on Friday for any further unusual disturbance torques. NESDIS will make a decision on the way forward following an extended monitoring period which may last through the weekend.

GOES-10 is operating as GOES-East with routine imager and sounder schedules at: http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/SATS/MESS/MSG3391948.01.txt

NESDIS is rebroadcasting GOES-10 GVAR (inclination correction on), LRIT, and DCS now through GOES-12, starting at 1515 UTC today. Direct GVAR and LRIT users should not need to repoint their antennas to GOES-10. Due to interference, EMWIN is being transmitted solely through GOES-10.

NESDIS and NASA engineering teams are preparing procedures to bring GOES-13 out of storage mode to on orbit mode.
