Explore 25 Years of the Hubble Space Telescope
NASA will host a one-day-long event for 50 social media and media attendees at the Newseum and NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center to mark the 25th anniversary of the Hubble Space Telescope. In 1990, the Hubble Space Telescope was launched into a low Earth orbit and began returning groundbreaking images and data that continue to revolutionize astronomy.
Hubble has made more than 1 million observations. Astronomers using Hubble data have published more than 12 thousand scientific papers, which makes Hubble one of the most productive scientific instruments ever built. The five Hubble servicing missions not only repaired, replaced and upgraded systems on the telescope; they also became an engineering proof-of-principle that we could service missions in space.
The Thursday, April 23 event begins with an 8:30 am ET check-in at the Newseum at 555 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20001. Attendees will join the live NASA press conference at the museum and then be transported to NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. for behind-the-scenes tours and presentations and then be transported back to the Newseum at approximately 6 p.m.

Take part in a televised NASA press conference
Tour the Hubble Control Center at NASA Goddard, where the space telescope’s operations are monitored 24 hours a day by the Hubble Flight Operations Team
Handle actual tools used by astronauts during the Hubble Servicing Missions
View presentations by Hubble scientists on the scientific discoveries made possible by Hubble
Tour NASA Goddard’s satellite integration and testing facilities, including the ongoing construction of the scientific successor to Hubble – the James Webb Space Telescope.
