Expedition 7 Transfers Exercise Equipment Parts from Progress
The Expedition 7 crewmembers continued to unload the 2,268 kilograms (5,000 pounds) of cargo that was delivered to the International Space Station at the end of August by the Progress 12 spacecraft.
Among the items transferred Thursday were parts for the ISS’ Resistive Exercise Device. NASA ISS Science Officer Ed Lu performed troubleshooting efforts on the device.
Meanwhile, Commander Yuri Malenchenko inspected fire extinguishers and portable breathing apparatuses in the Station’s U.S. segment. This inspection is conducted monthly.
Capturing images of Hurricane Isabel was on the manifest for Thursday’s Crew Earth Observation activities. Isabel was moving westward Thursday afternoon in the Atlantic Ocean as it became a Category 5 hurricane with sustained winds near 258 kilometers per hour (160 mph).
