The EVA Tools and Crew Aids Panel met at JSC on February 5, 2001, in Building 1, Room 360, at 1:00 p.m. Representatives from the following organizations participated:

The following items were presented:

 


  1. PRACA Status — NS43/T. Miller

Seventeen FIAR’s are open for EVA hardware. Six FIAR’s were reported as past due and statused as follows:

JSCEC0796 — Active WIF Assy. Active WIF Control


nob appeared to have increased force to operate.

Final in XA signature loop.

BFCE029F105 — PGT. Pistol Grip Tool chatter.


To hold open throughout flight. Interims written for 5A, 5A.1. New ECD 3/1/01.


JSCEC0841 — PFR Gimbal Assy. Roll joint buttons binding.

To look at process and talk to EM.

JSCEC0814 — TERA — Out of configuration.

In XA signature loop.

JSCEC0846 — APFR. Rotation of collar is difficult/sticking.

Closure in work. New ECD 2/16/01.

JSCER0033 — USA SAFER. NSI trace on oscilloscope appeared abnormal.


Closure in signature loop. CR in review. Will present to 2/7/01 EHB.


No new FIAR’s were reported.

All STS-98 FIAR’s are closed.


The EVA hardware oldest FIAR, opened against the Adaptive Payload Carrier, is 519 days old.

  1. Cert Status — NC52/G. Wright

All hardware certification is closed for STS-98. There are two open hardware certifications for STS-102 — EVA Scissors, and QD Cap Removal Tool. An ESEL revision is in work to delete the QD Cap Removal Tool. There are five open hardware certifications for STS-100 — 11/16" Box End Wrench, USA SAFER, SAFER IVA Battery, EMU RF Camera Assy, and Equipment Tether Reel. A "first cut" at the STS-104 open certifications was also included.

  3. H-0925 — Baseline STS-109 (HST-03B) Tools ESEL — XA/B. Counts

This CCBD is a "first cut" at baselining the STS-109 (HST-03B) Tools ESEL. Issues were raised concerning additional quantities of several hardware items, including the Standard PFR, PBAS, EMU Middeck Chargers, EHIP and EHIP Charger, and ratchets. The Chairman requested the ESEL be revised to take all items back to the Standard ESEL quantities.

The following actions were assigned:

Action 2/5/01-1: Schedule meeting with MOD, XA I&O, and GSFC to discuss and revise the ESEL to justify any adds and return to the Tools Panel with inventory story.

Action 2/5/01-2: Investigate whether ERCA is a requirement, and if so, if the Orbiter is outfitted to carry.

Decision: Update CCBD and route for technical concurrence.

  1. H-0686R3 — Update STS-104 (7A) Tools ESEL — XA/B. Counts

This Revision 3 to the STS-104 (7A) Tools ESEL includes the addition of the QD Contingency Tool and the Essex Wrench, the move of the Crew Lock Bag from 6A to 7A, replacement of two SSP GP Caddies with ISS versions, and multiple part number, configuration and serial number updates. A comparison of standard SSP and ISS core tools vs. post 7A ISS Airlock quantities was also presented. A working group to include MOD, XA I&O, XA TRI, Engineering, and the Increment Crew will be established to review this comparison and finalize the ESEL.

Upon review of the ESEL, the following actions were assigned:

Action 2/5/01-3: Provide details of towel bar installation task to EC5 for review.

Action 2/5/01-4: Review planned task with Essex Wrench and advise of findings/results.

  1. H-0945 — Certify Shuttle Tools for ISS On-Orbit Stowage and USE — XA/L. Crocker


This CCBD requests certifying the following tools for stowage and use on ISS:


  • EHIP/PGT Cable

  • Hydrazine Detection System

  • Hydrazine Detection Tube

  • PGT/EHIP Y0Power Charger Cable

  • Velcro Tape Caddy

Decision: Redline required certification/delivery dates and present to 2/7/01 EHB.

  1. H-0648R4 — Revise STS-100 ESEL (ISS 6A) — XA/R. Fair

This Revision 4 to the STS-100 (6A) Tools ESEL contains required updates, including the following:


  • EMU: Move to middeck, 4 adjustable equipment tethers

  • Middeck: Move from EMU, 4 adjustable equipment tethers


    • Add HST PT Battery Bag

    • Change SAFER configuration from —305 to —309

    • Change SAFER Battery configuration from —303 to —305

    • Change Wire Tie Caddy from 1 to 2


  • Port TSA: Change numerous tool and tool set serial numbers

Decision: Route for technical concurrence.


  1. H-0668R6 — Update STS-102 (5A.1) Tools ESEL — XA/A. Mears
  2. This Revision 6 to the STS-102 (5A.1) Tools ESEL contains required updates, including serial number updates, correction of part numbers, and addition of 1 each SSP Torque Multiplier and GSE Latch Pin Caddy, one each LCA Lug, and deletion of the EVA Ohmmeter and _" QD Cap Tool.

    Decision: Route for technical concurrence.

  3. Walk-on: STS-102 (5A.1) Tool-to-Tool Fitcheck Status — HSMS/J. Case
  4. STS-102 open fitchecks include the REBA Charger to REBA and PGT/EHIP Y-Power Charger Cable, Torque Multiplier to MMWS Gimbals and Swingarms and the 3/8" Drive Ratchet. The Y-Power Charger Cable will be returned from USA via TPS to fitcheck to the REBA Charger.

     


  5. H-0948 — Quarter Turn Fasteners for HST-03B — XA/J. Dutton

This CCBD requests shipment to GSFC of 24 each of the Quarter Turn Assy, Latch Plate and Latch Nut Plate.

Decision: Route for technical concurrence.
