Preflight presentations on the next Shuttle mission, STS-104 to the International Space Station which is scheduled to take place early July. The Space Shuttle Atlantis will carry the new Joint Airlock and a fiver-member crew to the station. The International Space Station’s new robotic arm, Canadarm2, will be used to lift STS-104’s primary cargo, the Joint Airlock, out of Atlantis’s payload bay and attach it to the station The Joint Airlock is a pressurized flight element consisting of two cylindrical chambers attached end-to-end by a connecting bulkhead and hatch. Once installed and activated, the Airlock becomes the primary path for International Space Station space walk entry and departure.
