ESA-TV forward planning advisory: climate change report released on 2 February 2007
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) groups 2.500 researchers from around the globe and is the most comprehensive overview of climate change for guiding policy-makers. The Panel’s next report is due for release in Paris on 2 February, more than five years after the last report.
Scientists and government officials will meet to review and approve the report in Paris next week. Scientific sources confirmed this week that the report will underline the evidence of human causes for climate change, notably that anthropogenic (human) greenhouse gas increases caused most of the observed increase in globally averaged temperatures since the mid-20th century.
Satellites like Envisat play a major role in gathering data for climate change and in monitoring global change.
For this reason, ESA-TV will focus next week on this subject, with a replay of a 2006 Exchange “Envisat Update – Climate Change” on Tuesday 30 January, and a new release “biodiversity monitored from space” on Friday 2 February. Mailings with more details will be made 24 hours ahead of each transmission. Both Exchanges will also be available as Mpeg-2 file downloads in broadcast quality. The URLs will be provided with the mailings.
Next week, also the ESA Web Portal http://www.esa.int will provide further information on this topic.
