The next ESA TV Footage transmission on Eutelsat W1 (please note satellite parameters below) will take place on:

11 July 2001

11:00-12:00 GMT

The playout will include the following 3 itms:

Item 1: 11:00-11:20 GMT: Artemis pre-launch images.

ESA’s newest telecommunications satellite, Artemis, is scheduled for launch tomorrow, 12 July at 21:58 GMT. The launch date of Artemis coincides with that of the 10th Shuttle flight to the ISS. One of Artemis’ payloads will greatly improve the communications between the laboratory modules of the Space Station, and researchers on the ground. They will be able to follow their experiments in real time, and even be able to intervene. This item features a package of images on Artemis, its development and applications, and 3-D graphics of its functions in orbit.

Item 2: 11:20-11:35 GMT: ESA’s Missions to Mars.

There are many reasons to explore the other planets and the smaller bodies in our Solar system. Studying these may actually give us answers on questions about the history of our own Earth. Whereas stars other than the Sun are too far away to reach them, man-made space probes can travel throughout our solar system. This item is the first in a series of three programmes on planetary exploration. It outlines the main historic missions to other planets and provides a pre-view of ESA’s Rosetta and Smart-1 missions. The programme includes an A-roll with split audio and English voiceover, and a B-roll with clean international sound. A PDF file of the script is on line on the ESA TV Service Web site.

Item 3: 11:40-11:55 GMT: STS-100 Post Flight Presentation

The STS-100 Shuttle mission to the International Space Station in April of this year took up the first European astronaut to visit the ISS, Umberto Guidoni. The mission also saw the installation of the Canadian robotic arm and the second Italian built MPLM, Rafaello. This presentation is an edited highlights package of NASA footage set to music, giving a general overview of the whole mission. The next shuttle launch to the ISS, STS-104, will take place on Thursday 12 July and will be covered by the ESA TV Service – please visit our website for further details.
