Friday’s ESA TV Exchanges feed is transmitted by the European Commission’s “Europe by Satellite” (EbS) service. You can find the complete transmission schedule and download scripts and shot lists, also for ESA TV items, from the EbS Web site at http://europa.eu.int/comm/ebs/index.html

Background information on the transmission:
There is something for everyone in the “Europe in Space” pavilion at the 44th Le Bourget Air Show in Paris, open 16-24 June 2001. The 1300 sqm pavilion set up jointly by ESA and the French Space Agency CNES, features Earth observation, navigation, space science, the International Space Station, and Ariane launchers. This ESA TV Exchanges programme includes some highlights of events there:
Item 1: Guided tour of the “Europe in Space” pavilion.
Item 2: Sound bite by Alain Bensoussan, Chairman of the ESA Council and President of CNES, on the challenges ahead for Europe in Space.
Item 3: Announcement of the winner of ESA’s competition to design an Earth Flag. All 16 of the winners from the ESA Member States plus Canada, were present in Le Bourget and their winning entries on view for all to see. Anke Hartmann, from Germany was the happy winner: her drawing of an Earth flag will be painted onto the Ariane 5 launcher carrying Envisat into space in October and she will be able to watch this launch at Europe’s spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana.
Item 4: Outline by Stephen Briggs, Head of Remote Sensing at ESA, on how satellites can contribute to the EC initiative “Global Monitoring for Environment and Security”.
Item 5: A guided tour by ESA expert Dieter Isakeit of the end cone of the Columbus Laboratory for the International Space Station, on exhibit at the Paris Airshow.
Item 6: Soundbite by Armand Carlier, CEO of Astrium, Europe’s leading space company, on the role of space agencies like ESA and CNES to strengthen Europe’s space industry on global markets.
Item 7: Use of space technology in Formula 1 cars, of which one is on display in the “Europe in Space” pavilion.
