The year 2004 marks the 40th anniversary of Europe’s space effort, as it was in the spring of 1964 that the two predecessor organisations of ESA: ESRO and ELDO, took up their work. Both merged, in 1973, into a single organisation: the European Space Agency ESA.
Today’s transmission includes a summary of the most outstanding successes of ESRO, ELDO and ESA, along with an outlook onto ESA’s future, as part of a growing and integrating Europe. At the same time, ESA’s aim is to find a balance between the vision of Space exploration and the needs of European citizens.
