Story from Envisat: The challenge of the transport to Kourou

ESA TV Exchanges

Background information on the transmission:

Today, the programme will not be transmitted in split audio but as follows:

09:00 GMT: International (no voice commentary) A-roll, plus B-roll

09:15 GMT: Re-feed of programme, with English (mix audio) A-roll, plus B-roll

The B-roll is identical for both transmissions, with clean international sound.

This ESA TV Exchanges feed is transmitted by the European Commission’s “Europe by Satellite” (EbS) service. You can find the complete transmission schedule and download scripts and shot lists, also for ESA TV items, from the EbS Web site at http://europa..eu.int/comm/ebs/index.html

Envisat is the biggest satellite ever developed in Europe. Its transport from ESA’s test and integration facilities in Noordwijk in the Netherlands to Europe’s spaceport in Kourou in South America took place by plane. Getting 8 tons of delicate hi-tech equipment transported over 8000 km was no easy task for the engineers and logistics experts. Today’s programme tells the story, including soundbites with those who participated in the task.

The 5-minute A-roll contains split audio with an English guide track and is complemented by a longer B-roll with clean international sound. The script and shot list are on-line as a PDF document under http://television.esa.int/photos/EbS21444.pdf
