Celebrate the Shuttle’s 30th Anniversary of STS-1 on Tuesday

Tuesday, April 12, marks a U.S. milestone in human spaceflight exploration as the Space Shuttle Program (SSP) celebrates the 30th anniversary of STS-1.

Please join us beginning at 9 a.m. CDT in the Teague Auditorium for a special morning commemorating the accomplishments of the last 30 years. Our program includes:

– A few words from some of our past and present senior NASA leadership, including some former SSP managers
– A special viewing of a spaceflight video, along with a shuttle historical perspective from our Space Shuttle Program Manager
– A special message from NASA Administrator Charlie Bolden
– A special message from STS-133 that the Discovery crew recorded while on orbit
– A special message from the International Space Station Expedition 27 crew
– An opportunity to see the IMAX Hubble 3D movie in high definition with introduction by Astronaut Mike Massimino (STS-125)
– Gather in the lobby afterward to reminisce and share stories of the last 30 years

Don’t forget to don your favorite old-school STS shirts and commemorate the anniversary, because it’s “Wear Your Favorite Mission Shirt Day,” too.

The event will air live on the NASA OMNI channel, but don’t miss the event in the Teague lobby. Following the celebration, each attendee will receive a Certificate of Appreciation from the Space Shuttle Program Office and an opportunity to have your certificate signed by our special guests. Starport will be serving lemonade and anniversary cake, and Starport’s satellite store will have commemorative merchandise available for the anniversary.
