The next launch of Europe’s Ariane launcher is scheduled for the night 8-9 April. It will be followed with a lot of attention, although strictly speaking, it is not more than a routine launch of an Indian and a US-American elecommunications satellites by Ariane 5.
However, what would have been business as usual a few months ago is not in April 2003. In the night of 11 to 12 December 2002, the maiden flight of the 10-ton Airiane 5 failed, and just four weeks later, Arianespace and ESA decided that they would not launch ESA’s Rosetta cometary probe in January, which meant that the envisaged target-comet Wirtanen is now being reconsidered.
The upcoming Ariane 5 launch is an important step to reestablish confidence into Europe’s launcher sector and into Arianespace, the world’s first space transportation company. Today’s transmission provides story details and background images on this subject.
The programme comprises of a 5 minute A-roll with split audio (English commentary/international sound) and is complimented by a B-Roll with clean international sound.
The script will be available on the day of transmission as a PDF document under http://television.esa.int/photos/EbS29192.pdf.
