Message from the Center Director – Notification of Probable Security Officer Strike
Currently there is a labor dispute between SecTek, which has the NASA Ames security contract, and the United Government Security Officers of America, which is the union that represents SecTek’s security personnel.
On Friday, August 10, 2007, the union notified Ames’ management that they intended to strike Monday morning, August 13. Per NPR 5200.1D, Chapter 4, NASA Ames invoked the provision formally establishing a reserve gate for SecTek employees and union picketers. Gate 18, located on R.T. Jones Road is the designated gate.
As always, we are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all center employees, visitors, and assets of Ames Research Center. During the labor dispute, all Ames gates will remain staffed with qualified security officers. Random vehicle inspections will continue and our security police will remain on patrol.
This labor dispute is strictly a matter between the contractor and its employees as members of a bargaining union. However, we are hopeful all affected parties will continue to work together to come to an expeditious and equitable settlement.
If you have any questions, please contact Robert Dolci, Chief, Protective Services Office, at ext. 4-5214.
