AQUA Spacecraft in and out of Safe Mode
It is believed that a single event upset (SEU) occurred on the Aqua spacecraft at approximately 1500 GMT time on Thursday, June 27th. The spacecraft is now in safe/hold condition with no science data flowing since that time. The alleged SEU occurred directly over the DUCK region of the South Atlantic Anomaly region of Aqua’s orbit. Science data will be reactivated once the spacecraft is placed back into science mode.
On Friday (6/28), AQUA was configured back to Command and Telemetry Controller Side A (CTC-A), returned all instruments (except MODIS) to science mode, and resumed MCL control of activities. MODIS will return to science mode following successful uplink of the “misinterpretation” FSW patch.
