Aqua Daily Report May 23, 2002 1130 GMT – May 24, 2002 1130 GMT

(DOY 143:1130z – 144:1130z)

The following activities were completed:

1. Completed dynamic balancing of the AMSR-E instrument. The final position
   of the AMSR-E On-board Balancing Mechanism (OBM) was 47.3 mm.

2. Completed the spin-up of AMSR-E from 29 rpm to the operational rate of 40 rpm.
3. Uplinked the daily Master Command Loads and Ephemeris.
4. Transitioned the MODIS instrument to the ON state.
5. Moved the MODIS Space View Door (SVD) to the Outgas position.
6. Completed the MODIS first, second and third Outgas.
7. Returned the AMSU A1 and A2 instruments to Full Scan Mode.

The following activities are scheduled for the next 24 hours:

1. Return HSB to Scan Mode.
2. Perform CERES Aft Azimuth Position and Rate Functional Test.
3. Uplink the daily Master Command Loads and Ephemeris.

Aqua Spacecraft Status:

1. Spacecraft State is currently Standby.
2. GNC Mode is Fine Point Mode, HiFi Ephemeris.

Aqua Instrument Status:

1. AIRS is in Standby state, Quiet bus is ON, Noisy bus is ON, Cryocooler is OFF with the Heater ON, Scan mirror rotating is OFF and earth shield is CLOSED.
2. AMSR-E is in Observation Wait mode, rotating at 40 RPM.
3. AMSU A1 is in Full Scan mode.
4. AMSU A2 is in Full Scan mode.
5. CERES Aft is in Safe mode and the covers are CLOSED.
6. CERES Fore is in Safe mode and the covers are CLOSED.
7. HSB is in Survival mode and the antenna is in the Target position.
8. MODIS is in Standby mode, Nadir Door is Unlatched and CLOSED, Solar Diffuser Door is Unlatched and CLOSED, and the Space View Door is Unlatched and CLOSED.

Activities Deferred:

1. AMSR-E to Normal mode (see anomaly #1 below).

Anomalies:

1. The AMSR-E Signal Processor for the Sensor Unit (SPS) switched off shortly after being commanded to Normal (Science) mode. Initial commands to the SPS have been unsuccessful. The investigation is currently on-going.
