Astronauts: Fitness Training With The “Best of the Best!”
How do Astronauts stay in shape for long-duration missions in a weightless environment? Learn this and how elite athletes staying fit in a special Google+ Hangout Wednesday, July 17.
NASA Astronaut Mike Hopkins will be joined by 2010 U.S. Olympic Team figure skater Rachael Flatt and bobsledder Curt Tomasevicz, CrossFit Games Champion Rich Froning, Jr., and Houston Texans player Jared Crick for the discussion, which can be seen live on NASA’s Google+ page or on NASA Television.
Peter Moore of Men’s Health magazine, Sam Kass, Executive Director of the White House’s Let’s Move! campaign and Mark Guilliams, Hopkin’s lead strength coach, will also participate.

Both Tomasevicz and Flatt will join the Hangout from the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., where athletes train as hopefuls for upcoming Olympic and Olympic Winter Games. Tomasevicz and the Night Train bobsled team won Olympic gold at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games to become the first U.S. Olympic Champions in the four-man event since 1948. Flatt, the 2010 U.S. figure skating champion, also competed in the 2010 Games.

Froning is the two-time CrossFit Games champion, having won the “Fittest on Earth” title in both 2011 and 2012. Froning is currently competing in the 2013 Games.

Crick is a defensive end for the Houston Texans football team. Previously, he played at the University of Nebraska and ranked eighth on their all-time sacks list.
